How was your last summer? Sitting around in the garden, soaking sporadic rays? Boring ‘staycation’ that didn’t really deliver your much-deserved holiday buzz? Two weeks somewhere sunny then back to earth with a thud? You can do better than that and we’ve got just the thing for you.

The VisitLiverpool guide is designed to help people easily discover all the wonders Liverpool City Region has to offer this season. Whether you’re a visitor, travel agent, tour operator, a business looking to attract visitors, or a resident of the region, this guide is packed with insights and highlights to remind you how amazing Liverpool City Region is as a visitor destination.

Together with the help of the team here at Marketing Liverpool, I regularly put this guide together and I love to see how Liverpool City Region always pulls out all the stops, to put on a programme of events, activities and a bewildering array of attractions that never fail to get me excited for the months ahead.

First, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our amazing partners who have taken out placements in the guide. Without your support, which 100% funds this publication, we couldn’t showcase the best of what Liverpool has to offer.

Now, let’s dive into just a small selection of some of my personal ‘top things to do’ in Liverpool City Region this summer:

Africa Oyé

(22-23 June) – Held in Sefton Park, this is the UK’s largest free celebration of African music and culture. It’s an unmissable event that brings vibrant music, dance, and a diverse range of food and craft stalls. Find out more HERE.

Beyond Van Gogh

(27 June – 24 July) – Experience over 300 of Van Gogh’s masterpieces in a dynamic display at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool. This immersive exhibit brings the art to life in a truly unique way. Find out more HERE.

Southport Air Show

(13-14 July) – Head to Southport Beach for an exhilarating day of aerial displays and family fun. It’s a fantastic day out by the sea with plenty of action for all ages. Find out more HERE.

Pride in Liverpool

(26-27 July) – Join in the celebrations at Liverpool Pier Head with this year’s headliner, Katrina, formerly of Katrina and the Waves. It’s a joyful event that highlights the city’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community. Find out more HERE.

Southport Flower Show

(15-18 August) – Dazzling visitors with a stunning array of flora from all around the world and offering a vibrant burst of colour, The Southport Flower Show is deservedly one of Southport’s most cherished annual events. This year, the show will focus on health and well-being, highlighting the benefits of flowers and gardening and their positive impact on daily life. Find out more HERE.

Liverpool Celebrates

(23-26 August) – This event is a tribute to Liverpool’s legendary cultural icons and includes a takeover of the famous Mathew Street Festival and Cavern Club, celebrating the city’s musical heritage in style. Find out more HERE.

In addition to all these events, our guide is full of tips on the best places to eat, shop, and explore. There’s something for everyone from the bustling Liverpool ONE retail and leisure district with its high-end boutiques and independent pop-ups to the historic and picturesque Lark Lane.

Liverpool City Region’s dining scene is equally impressive, with sustainable dining options like Maray, which has been carbon neutral since 2021, and Squash Cafe in Toxteth, where fresh produce is grown on-site.

For those looking to stay active, the city offers plenty of green spaces like Sefton Park and Calderstones Park, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a more vigorous workout. And if you’re interested in a more structured exploration, Liverpool Eco Tours provides sustainable walking and cycling tours that showcase the best of the city’s sights in an eco-friendly manner.
