Liverpool has been chosen to be Host City for the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) European Congress 2026
Liverpool Convention Bureau worked collaborative with City stakeholders including ACC Liverpool and the UK Society in order to create a compelling bid document to demonstrate why Liverpool should be selected as the host city.
The decision to host the event in the UK for the first time was made at the 6th European IRPA Congress which took place last week in Budapest. The decision to have been chosen as the 2026 host city is testament to Liverpool’s fantastic conference and event offering.
The IRPA is the international voice of the radiation protection profession. It is an association of radiation protection professionals joining through national and regional radiation protection societies. They promote the worldwide enhancement of professional competence, radiation protection culture, and practice by providing benchmarks of good practice, and encouraging the application of the highest standards of professional conduct, skills, and knowledge for the benefit of individuals and society.
The congress will take place from 1 – 5 June 2026 at ACC Liverpool and bring over 600 radiation protection professionals to the city with the expected economic impact of the congress over £1.6 million for the local economy.
Jennifer Jensen, Head of Business Tourism at Marketing Liverpool said:
“We are delighted that Liverpool has been chosen as the first UK city to host the Congress. This event is a key diary date for radiation protection professionals all over Europe and we look forward to welcoming them to Liverpool in four years’ time”.
