Next month, a focused delegation of approximately 10 private sector firms, including Arup, Avison Young, Brabners, Gleeds, Morgan Sindall Construction, Peel, Sutcliffe, Steven Hunt & Associates, IoN Developments Lovells and WSP, will be travelling out to MIPIM from 15th – 18th March. They will be joined by a robust leadership team comprised of Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram, Mayor of Liverpool Joanne Anderson, Chief Executive of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Katherine Fairclough and Chief Executive of Liverpool City Council Tony Reeves, all with the remit to showcase the Liverpool City Region as a place for investment.

This is the first opportunity for the Liverpool City Region to attend MIPIM post-Brexit and it presents a fantastic opportunity to talk about the region’s significant investment potential. The focused approach will help facilitate top level discussions nationally and internationally, creating a great platform for the region across strategic partnerships and government departments, including with the UKTI and the UK Pavilion.

Innovation is set to be a big talking point at MIPIM, and Liverpool Place Partnership will be championing the world-leading projects that are taking place in the region. These include in Knowledge Quarter and the city’s healthcare sector, as well as the likes of Liverpool and Wirral Waters, Glass Futures and also the regeneration of many of the region’s towns. Linking back to the sustainability agenda, the pioneering work along the coast to generate net zero energy will also be at the forefront of conversation, as will the Liverpool City Region’s freeport status.

The Future Impact Board, which was launched last year and is made up of a team of young property and construction professionals, is committed to striving for positive change for the future of the Liverpool City Region, with individuals playing an active role at events throughout the year. The Future Impact Board has been influential in helping to shape some of the themes that will be discussed as part of the events programme, including conversations around life sciences, ESG, net zero and sessions in partnership with BPF and Homes England.

Sustainability is high on everybody’s agenda and Liverpool Place Partnership has taken a more inclusive and eco-conscious approach to this year’s conference. The Liverpool City Region will have a smaller presence at one of the pop-up tents outside of the Palais des Festivals, using rented furniture so that everything is reusable, and any stand giveaways will only be biodegradable.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region said:

“The past few years have been challenging for everyone but, thanks to the work of local leaders, our region’s recovery is already well underway.

“We go to MIPM with a fantastic story to tell and a glut of exciting and transformative projects that are ripe for investment. The Liverpool City Region has limitless potential in a whole range of sectors, from advanced manufacturing to hydrogen and tidal power. We’ll be working to attract as much investment as possible to our region.

“But for that investment to mean anything, local people and communities have to really feel its benefits. That means creating well paid, highly skilled jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities, and helping to transform communities that have been left behind.”

Stephen Cowperthwaite, chair of the Liverpool Place Partnership and regional MD for Avison Young in Liverpool, said:

“After a couple of years away from MIPIM, we are looking forward to once again be reigniting some of the connections and conversations that will bring more international interest to our great city. Since we were last in Cannes, through a host of webinars, meetings and roundtables we have been working hard as a partnership to ensure that our investment message isn’t purely centred around MIPIM. However, it is an important event in the business and property calendar as it provides us with the international reach to secure further future investment.

“Liverpool City Region is already well established as a visitor destination and we will be championing how the region is also a great place to invest, for both investors and occupiers.

“The Future Impact Board is a statement of our commitment to the future, making sure that younger voices are heard on the world stage, and it has been important to involve them in our planning for this year’s presence.”
