MEET SOPHIE…

We chat to our Communications & Digital Marketing Executive Sophie Shields to find out a little more about her role at Marketing Liverpool.

Sophie, tell us a bit about your role at Marketing Liverpool?

I started working for Marketing Liverpool in October 2018 – I don’t know where those nearly four years have gone. From a Digital Marketing perspective, I work across the team but mainly concentrate on the social media channels and website for VisitLiverpool. This includes writing a range of blogs for the website, producing newsletters and looking after the VisitLiverpool social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and now TikTok. If you’re not following us you definitely should – search for @VisitLiverpool and you’ll find us!

From a PR perspective, I help to create stories and provide information for media and press based on what is happening across the Liverpool City Region. This involves creating and sending out press releases, planning and organising press trips with international and national publications and media outlets and working with organisations such as Visit Britain to help promote Liverpool to the world.

Every day has been different, even during the lockdowns!

What are you working on at the moment?

Since travel restrictions have started to relax I have been working with a whole range of journalists and influencers visiting Liverpool. From Conde Nast Traveller to The Sunday Times Ireland – the media visits have been non-stop which is great to see!

Alongside this, I’ve been creating media interest around events and openings in Liverpool City Region including ‘The Batman’ release in March, which was partly filmed in Liverpool, the opening of the Shakespeare North Playhouse and Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux, Liverpool’s new food and drink festival coming to the city over the Queen’s Jubilee weekend. You can keep up to date with information on Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux at www.visitliverpool.com/TasteLiverpool.

You can also catch me out and about at events, new openings and our city’s wonderful attractions and hospitality venues, snapping up content for social media.

What has been your favourite project to work on?

Every project we work on is wonderful to be a part of but one of my favourite projects would be the ‘Love Your Liverpool’ campaign we put together during the Summer of 2020. It was great to be part of helping the city recover from the pandemic by encouraging locals to fall in love with Liverpool and discover parts of the city they never have before.

What is the best thing about Liverpool?

The best thing about Liverpool is that there is always something going on. Every day or night, whether it’s the middle of the week or a Sunday afternoon, you’ll find something brand new to enjoy, from gigs, to exhibitions, cultural events and shows. We’re also a friendly bunch and the sense of community in the city is something I’ll always be proud of.

Tell us a bit about you?

When I’m not shouting about Liverpool being the best city in the world, you’ll more than likely find me shouting at Liverpool (FC) in the pub, at a gig in one of the city’s amazing music venues or trying to keep up the many hobbies I picked up in lockdown. The running shoes might be gathering dust, but my houseplant collection is now thriving.
