With projects connected to road, rail, walking, cycling and air being considered across the country, what will be the key schemes that need investment and what should be prioritised? EVENT 1: How can the next generation help plan the places of the future?

Speaker: Marc Barlow, Project Engineer, Curtins
Marc is a member of the Future Impact Board and a Graduate Engineer for Curtins. He is involved with the design and construction of several major local developments which have, or will positively impact the Liverpool City Region including, Wirral Waters, Merseyside Police Headquarters and Liverpool Festival Gardens. Alongside his technical responsibilities, Mark is engaged with younger generations and inspires them to pursue STEM careers. Marc is a beneficiary of the positive effect of the 2008 Capital of Culture and as a LJMU graduate, he aspires to make the Liverpool City Region the best home for its current and future population.

EVENT 2: What role does the real estate sector play in ‘Levelling Up’ the UK?

SPEAKER: Stephen Cowperthwaite, Chair of Liverpool Place Partnership and Principal and Managing Director Avison Young
Stephen is a Principal and Managing Director Avison Young Liverpool with over 30 years’ experience in the property industry. Having specialised in the retail and leisure sector Stephen provides wider consultancy advice on a variety of mixed use schemes. Stephen has extensive knowledge of the key projects in Liverpool and works closely with stakeholders across the public and private sectors.
Stephen is also Chair of the Liverpool Place Partnership, an independent group of private sector leads that direct representation of Liverpool City Region at MIPIM, promotes Liverpool throughout the year and is a sounding board of private sector thinking.

The levelling up agenda has now been pushed to the forefront by the UK Government with the White Paper due to be published early in 2022 but what can the real estate sector do to support this?
