This weekend we hosted Men in Blazers, a US TV show, podcast and website about football and the culture around the game.
They were visiting to create videos showing the best sides of the city region, and encouraging American fans to take a trip over to see it for themselves.
Some press visits happen at short notice and others are much longer in the making. This began by speaking with our colleagues at VisitBritain, who have a content partnership with Men in Blazers. One of the presenters, Rog Bennett, is from the city and a huge Evertonian so we were already onto a good start.
After we’d pitched some Liverpool ideas and gone back and forth with the team, we settled on visiting to coincide with the huge Liverpool v Manchester City game on Sunday, and capturing the Anfield atmosphere both in the stadium and at places such as the wonderful Homebaked before the match. They had already featured Everton, visiting Goodison Park and meeting with Speedo Mick to talk about his fantastic charity work.
The itinerary also included meeting Rog’s dad onboard the Mersey Ferry, talking about maritime history and contemporary art at Crosby beach, seeing inside the beautiful Princes Road Synagogue and – of course – sampling a bowl of Scouse in Maggie May’s on Bold Street.
As well as doing social media during the visit, the team will now create a set of videos which will be published in early 2020. We can’t wait to see the results, so watch this space.
