The road to a successful planet lies in lessening our dependence on oil and gas and making sure that all people on Earth have access to the energy they need to sustain life.
Weaning the world off oil and turning it towards a hydrogen economy could present a golden ticket to a safer world.
Liverpool City Region and the wider North West believe in hydrogen energy. Last year the city announced several major hydrogen economy initiatives, including a bid to become the UK’s first zero-carbon industrial cluster, a multi-billion pound tidal-power plan, new hydrogen-fuelled busses and facilities and several pioneering climate resilience policies, partnerships and funds.
The inaugural Hydrogen Economy North West event took place on 5th June 2109. The event highlighted why the North West is an exemplar region when it comes to kick-starting a hydrogen economy, sharing ideas, successes and strategy to provoke change and champion cleaner, greener sustainable energy, through hydrogen.
But first things first, prior to the event, organisers Halton Borough Council needed to reach selected delegates, quickly communicate the importance of the event, encourage them to register and provide all the information needed to ensure delegates experience was as seamless as possible. They needed professional marketing support, with a reputation for delivering professional B2B events. They called Marketing Liverpool.
Tim Leather, Lead officer for Business Improvement and Growth at Halton Borough Council tells us more about the event and explains how the successful relationship with Marketing Liverpool came about: “We’re really proud of this year’s event. We secured speakers including Stephen Speed, Director of Energy Development at the Department of Energy and Climate Change and Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram.
“The event also greatly benefitted from first-hand input from a selection of the biggest players in UK hydrogen power, including each of our partners; BOC, Cadent, Costain, Alstom, Inovyn, North West Hydrogen Alliance, North West Business Leadership Team, Cheshire and Warrington LEP and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. You look at those names and the work they are doing in this area and you instantly get why the North West has such strengths in this field.
“The actual organising of the event, it’s content and what we wanted to achieve come together really well but we needed help with the marketing. We needed a company to deliver a brand for the event, a website and an e-marketing campaign, with a quick turnaround. Something that looked good, was good value for money, but something that effectively and quickly sold the event to busy delegates and had in-built flexibility so that it could be used after the event and for future events. Through my close relationship to Invest Liverpool, I naturally thought of Marketing Liverpool, who agreed to become an event partner.
“I was already familiar with Marketing Liverpool’s work through their destination marketing brands, Visit Liverpool, Invest Liverpool and Liverpool Convention Bureau. They always demonstrate an ability to communicate a complex offer effectively but still present it in a very simple way, which I thought would work well for our event, which has more than 15 speakers.
“Right from the start Marketing Liverpool became an ideal event partner with us on this event, suggesting new ideas and going above and beyond to help us meet our deadline and turn the website and e-campaign around in time to effectively promote the event.
“Marketing Liverpool’s unique set-up also enabled us to access the services of their Liverpool Convention Bureau team, who organised delegate accommodation and even assisted with the event management on the day, which worked out well. The feedback we have received has been amazing and we easily sold out, which is always a good sign. We’re even hoping to use the brand they created for hydrogen projects across the North West.
Peter Smith, Head of Marketing Liverpool said: “There was a fair amount of work to do in a short space of time but Tim and the team at Halton Council came to us with a fully formed event, right down to the last detail. This made it easy for us to get up to scratch quickly and deliver an effective marcomms solution on time.
“It’s great to be part of an event that promotes the North West’s UK leading Hydrogen economy initiatives. Liverpool City Region is on the frontline in the advancement of hydrogen energy and this really came across at this year’s event. Marketing Liverpool is the destination marketing agency for the city, but we consider partnering on new projects like this, that promote the city region’s drive and initiative.”
The 20219 Hydrogen Economy North West event presented a clear, comprehensive case for further investment in hydrogen energy across the region and the rest of the UK. Liverpool City Region and the wider North West is working hard to move us away from the destructive, depleting years of the oil era towards safe, clean energy created from hydrogen – one of the most abundant substances in the universe.
